As you can read in my biography, (click here), and in the interview I did for the UFO Review magazine, (click here), I’ve had a lifelong curiosity about UFOs. Like many of the older generation of Ufologists I started out by believing they were probably ‘nuts and bolts’ machines, but over the years my ideas have changed. I still believe that some of the reported sightings are solid, physical, machines. However, I’m also deeply drawn towards the belief that the whole subject may be far more ethereal in character. By which, I mean that I would also include a study of other topics - from the paranormal to out-of-place objects and alternative history. I believe that humanity was seeded on Earth by some advanced alien civilization. Perhaps the DNA of some primate-type speices was altered to produce Homo sapiens – after all the Missing Link has yet to be discovered. We may be an experiment, left to our own devices to be studied in much the same way that scientists might watch animals. Which, I suppose, raises the issue of the Intelligent Design, and the debate that’s currently raging about it. Personally, I think that Intelligent Design is plausible in the sense that some E.T. ‘created’ us, but not in the sense of our having been created by some supreme god. However, I do believe in One Higher Being that I would call the Universal All, or Great Spirit. For me, that is The Being who created the Universe and everything in it, from whom we came – via whichever route you choose to believe in - and to whom we eventually return. For me, no matter how we were created, the reasons for which it happened are to help us evolve into higher, spiritual, beings and, on the way, to one day also become enlightened enough to join the galactic community. If we were able to step outside humanity and take an unbiased look at our own civilization I doubt that we’d actually want to either join it, or let it know that we existed. Our current human condition is far too aggressive and warlike. There are some UFO believers who think that evil aliens want to conquer the Earth so that they can use us as slaves, or even as a food source. For me that doesn’t make sense, (apart from the idea of feeding on our fear), because if they are advanced enough to be able to visit us – which many believe they have been doing for eons of time – then they could/would have enslaved us millennia ago. Another belief amongst Ufologists is that people are being abducted by aliens, and there are many reports of this seeming to be the case. However, I think there may be a connection between this and ancient folklore. Throughout history all cultures have had their myths and legends, their fairy tales, their almost primeval traditions. As society changes, and we perceive things in a different way, it could well be that what we call an abduction in modern terms is what our ancestors would have called a fairy story. But, the worst thing we can do is to allow others to do our thinking for us. To unquestioningly accept what others tell us. We need to study these ideas for ourselves, and then to decide which ones make sense to us, and which don’t.
